After a series of error reports Windows 10 October 2018 Update does not display a window warning users of duplicate files during the ZIP file extraction process, Microsoft has also confirmed the error and provided users with some solutions to fix the error.
Specifically, a few days ago, users discovered that during the process of extracting the ZIP file to the destination folder, the file coincided with the extracted ZIP file on Windows 10 October 2018 Update (v1809 ), but the screen did not display any warning stating that the files were duplicated. Usually in this case on the Windows desktop will display a warning dialog box with options:
1. Replace or overwrite files.
2. Skip files.
3. Keep both files.
Instead, Windows 10 v1809 will either automatically overwrite the file or take no action at all. Microsoft, for its part, has also acknowledged this error.
Microsoft confirms file overwriting error on Windows 10 October 2018 Update
According to Microsoft: “On the Windows 10 October 2018 Update, if you copy or move a file from a ZIP file (without having to extract it) to the destination folder containing duplicate files or write-protected, you will not receive the same “Do you want to replace these files” notifications. Although Windows will display overwritten files, the actual files will not be overwritten and the copying action will fail.”
Basically, the act of copying duplicate files will also fail, even if the user performs the copy commands properly.
Although this error is not critical, in some cases the error can destroy files containing important user content. Microsoft also recommends that users “refrain from cutting and pasting files from ZIP files. This can lead to users accidentally mistakenly deleting items that cannot be recovered.”
At the same time, the company also said that it is working on fixes and will soon release them to users in early November. Until then, users are advised to extract the ZIP files to the new folder to avoid encountering errors.
If you accidentally delete important files, you can restore these files from the Recycle Bin. You can also recover files from the Temporary File Directory folder by pressing Windows + R, then typing %temp% there, pressing Enter or clicking OK.
Currently, there are many software to compress and decompress Zip files, some famous software such as WinRAR or 7zip are used by many users, in which, WinRAR stands out much more, the number of WinRAR users to compress files as well as decompress is very large.
